James A. Batson has been a partner of Liddle & Robinson, L.L.P. since 1998.  He joined the firm upon his graduation from law school in 1993.  Mr. Batson earned his law degree and M.B.A. from Fordham University.  He graduated from Cornell University in 1988, where he majored in English and Economics.

 Mr. Batson represents individuals in all aspects of litigation.  Although employment disputes make up the majority of matters upon which he works, his experience also encompasses a broad array of commercial disputes. 

Mr. Batson is a leader in the field of electronic discovery. He was counsel of record for the plaintiff on all of the widely-followed Zubulake v. UBS Warburg decisions.  (Click the link below for more information.)  This expertise often proves critical to achieving a successful result in litigation, as e-mails and other forms of electronic communication increasingly become the critical evidence upon which cases are won and lost.  For instance, in Zubulake V, the Court ordered UBS to pay monetary sanctions and granted plaintiff’s request that an adverse inference instruction be given to the jury at trial.  Ultimately, the jury returned a verdict in favor of Laura Zubulake in the amount of $29.2 Million, which consisted of $9.1 Million in compensatory damages and $20.1 Million in punitive damages. In addition to numerous state and federal courts, Mr. Batson has appeared in arbitrations at the NYSE, the NASD, the American Arbitration Association and the Chicago Board of Trade.  He has also argued appeals before the New York Appellate Division and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Batson lives in Darien, CT with his wife Margie and children Fin, Casey and Billy.
